Where We Are
W.A.R. maintains a physical office in Kherson, Ukraine, in the city center. Dusing and Gardner live in Kherson part-time, rotating home to the United States every couple of months to attend to their affairs and families there. Kherson is W.A.R.’s “humanitarian home,” and the city and people have special significance to them for both personal and practical reasons. They have been made to feel a part of the community, and the people they serve there and work with in helping to serve, are their friends and neighbors. Locally in Kherson, it is not transactional humanitarianism for Dusing and Gardner but relationship-based and in the nature of “community building.” In this way, their local service is very personal.
That being said, W.A.R. operates throughout Ukraine and entertains requests for assistance from anywhere in Ukraine. In particular, by virtue of their prior experience serving in the eastern regions (the Kharkiv and Donbas areas), W.A.R. has a vast network of both international and local Ukrainian volunteers in these areas from which support is routinely drawn and to which W.A.R.’s support is regularly provided. In short, while W.A.R. has an overabundance of requests for assistance at any given time and must prioritize the most serious and urgent requests, in theory, it stands ready to provide humanitarian assistance and perform humanitarian services anywhere in Ukraine.
